It is with great regret and sadness that Tom and I have decided we can no longer continue supporting the Permaculture Research Institute Luganville.

How we decided to move the project

Hello every one,

Here finally after all this time some fresh news from the bush !

We would like to send you a bit of our tasty and coloured life for this new year 2016, we wish for you a great new year full in new experiences, ideas and happiness. The mangoes are now every where in abundance, and with the juicest and sweetest pineapple ever they are making our incredibly hot days a delight for this end of year.

We decided now to give you a weekly or second weekly newsletter with a condensed of our activities and we will add some extras article about different topics.

News from the bush, part 11

On Monday 28^th, Dede came with us in the morning. Dany, Franck, himself and Nicolas went to collect rafters to finish the kitchen roof structure.

News from the bush part 10

On the Monday 21^st, a big team went to the land early morning! Frank, his wife, his ‘Bro’: Alfred, Bernard and Dede from Bellaru all joined us, and it has been very nice to feel this support after all the doubts from the previous week. We are starting to be part of the local area and all our neighbours were happy to come and give a hand. Every one grabbed a bamboo on the way up to the land. The whole team arrived, we started to work under Franck’s directions, we cleaned the palm rails for the floor structure and we nailed them after nailing the beams to the posts with big ‘wires’ which is actually a concrete steel rod. Then
Bernard led the group to a soft bamboo spot and every one brought back a bundle of this walling material! Alfred showed us how to process bamboo wall according to the triangle shape, every one took part peeling out from knots, splitting up in half and opening up the all things before to flatten it. Then we stared to weave a wall and with the help of few people working together it was done really quickly.

News from the bush, part 9

We had our pancakes really early on the Monday 14^th,  as we had an appointment with Bernard our neighbour at 7am who is going to introduce us to the Chief of Bellaru, Victor Moltures. The project is right in the middle of land issues, as it is the case everywhere on the island! Now here since 3 months we are starting to understand Bishlamah better and we also gained some precious keys of understanding in this particular culture, ruled by kastom : Custom laws .

On the Monday, 7^th we were lazy due to heavy rain and postponed our way to the land, we finally stayed home all day and did a bit of cleaning after a great heavy sweet breakie : tarro porridge with jam and pawpaw ! 

News from the bush, part 7

On Friday the 28th, Dany and I went down early as we decided to join Ona’s gathering in Big Bay in order to finally meet her, new ‘white people’ and visit the area and his inhabitants. Having some days off from our routine to enjoy the beauty of this island paradise was actually something we were in need of!

Site Update, part 6 – week 8

Hello guys ! Here Anne writing again, I’m back and happy to be so! I spent a nice needed time on one of the most beautiful beaches ever seen, kind of island treasure with blue lagoon water and coconuts along the shore. It has actually really been nice to visit a bit around having a look on the East coast and realizing how this land is an island paradise. I also met a lot of new people and made some great new connections for the project. First a New Zealand girl volunteering in Luganville for the NGO ‘wan smol bag’ which we visited while we were in Port Villa. 

Site update, part 5

On this 7th week, Monday the 10th, Ginette decided to go in town so we changed our plan.  I had to stay home to do the “security” as Frank was away and Linden and Dany went to cut the bamboo, Meriem went with them as we prefer not to have one person in the bush alone.
